Big gender will find you no matter where you are or how hard you try to keep it at arm’s length. My middle daughter is a 3 sport athlete and trombone player who one day decided that she was not a Tom boy but an actual boy and asked for gender identity treatment. After 6 months of refusal, prayer, arguing and giving it the cold shoulder ,honestly ignoring it, she’s back to normal and laughs at that tome a few years ago.(Horrifying for me) I thought we were doing everything right: private classical school, Soviet-style parental controls and limits on devices (I’m an IT security specialist with years of experience in the military and with Fortune 500 companies- I couldn’t find any evidence she was radicalized online), and church involvement.

I’m convinced had we allowed the medical profession to get involved, things would have been vastly different and instead of the healthy kid we have the end state of that kind of therapy would be too difficult to contemplate. Things didn’t end so well for a friend who took the medical route. When his daughter tried to quit therapy of her own choosing the “counselors” and “medical doctors” were apoplectic and made all sorts of threats. The family had to lawyer up due to threats of involving children and family services-- when the kid decided she didn’t want treatment.

I say all this because I was honestly shocked at how this has proliferated in the last 5 years. I remember 2004, the year I got my bachelor’s. I contend a traditional marriage ballot initiative helped get Bush elected by driving turnout in Ohio. Now if someone tried that the organizers would be branded as bigots, doxxed, and be cast out of polite society. It’s only been 19 years but I feel like we’ve “progressed” into some very dark stuff that no matter how good of a foxhole you have, it’s never enough.
