That’s an illustration that Salvador Dali did of a scene from Dante’s Divine Comedy — the angelic boatman at the beginning of the Purgatorio, rowing saved sinners to the holy mountain. See more of them here. Thanks to my friend Frederica Mathewes-Green for pointing me to them. I had not realized that Dali illustrated Dante.
