On X I’m known as a Trad adjacent Catholic priest so I get mobbed by Nazi curious Catholics all the time now. It’s baffling. I never encounter these folks at Mass, but the overly online Trad Catholics who hate Jews are recruiting on X for sure.

What’s not helpful is that my defense of the older prayers for the conversion of the Jews and the traditional Holy Week readings from St Augustine gets me labeled a Nazi by the very online Lib Catholics. Those folks are making the point for the Fuentes fans.

I can’t win.

There's so much commentary I could make on this, but the most important comment I want to make is that Rod, this is really one of your very best columns. You've identified one of the biggest challenges the Right is facing, and extrapolated on it in ways that will keep me thinking for the next several days, and I'll leave it at that.

The strangeness of blaming Jews is utterly bemusing to Jewish people. Sure, Jews are overrepresented among ruling class liberals, but not nearly as much as, say, Ivy League graduates. It's hard for people who don't know many Jews to explain how ordinary we are. The old Jewish joke is, "Jews are just like everyone else, only more so."

I keep looking, but I haven't yet found where Christianity is condemned for Nazism, Orthodoxy for Soviet Communism, and Buddhism for Maoism and the Khmer Rouge, but I guess that's next week.
