Hi Nic. I think you do need to be a US Citizen to INVEST, but we're working developing a method by which people can donate and that should not have border restrictions. If you're interested in donating please email livenotbyliesproject@gmail.com and we'll get in touch!

FYI - It looks like my pledge went through, but I had quite a time getting it to work. I chose to do bank transfer, and my bank is available through the app Angel uses, but I never got the verification emails with the codes from Plaid, so I had to give up on that. I then tried by e-check, and I have one of the very rare checking accounts with a dash in the account number, which the e-check program didn't accept as a valid character. It accepted it without a dash, but it took days to get out of "pending".

I scanned the FAQs that there is no info about how this investment might need to be reported on my tax return now, and in the future if there are profits distributed. I don't want to complicate my tax return and I cannot knowingly do my return incorrectly or incompletely. I wish I could just donate to the project rather than invest. I don't care if a donation is not tax deductible.

Hi K--

It would be similar to buying any other publicly traded stock. Pretty sure no impact on your tax return for now and then if it returns a profit later you'd get a 1099.

Thanks very much, Isaiah, for your response. I've only invested in mutual funds; no individual stocks. I see in comments below that there may be a way to donate by contacting livenotbyliesproject@gmail.com; I will explore that.

Stock and mutual fund investments work the same for tax. You will get a 1099 for a mutual fund, you will get one for stock. Isaiah has stated you will get one for this project if it has profits. No tax impact now, just when you and if there are profits. You file that form with your taxes. It adds to your income. Same way you have done in the past with mutual funds.

This is a worthwhile investment. Christians in Eastern Europe have shown us how to live our Christian lives faithfully in the face of of harsh opposition. We must learn from them, because I’m convinced that Soviet style oppression is coming here to America.

So happy to invest in this important project! I’m adding LNBL into my prayers that it gets fully funded. If you can’t invest, please pray that others will be moved to do so.

Would love to support, signed up early, but you need to be a US citizen to do so. As a Slovak expat living in the US, I dearly wish this project all the best.

Rod, would love to contribute. When i register at Angel they are requiring my ssn. Is there some way to contribute without having to enter my ssn? I really make people explain why they need that.

Isaiah Smallman's avatar

Hi Caroline, unfortunately an investment requires an SSN because the SEC forces the funding platform to verify people's citizenship etc. I can assure you, however, that the platform is extremely secure and your information will never be shared. If you're like to contribute without investing, please email livenotbyliesproject@gmail.com. We're working on getting set up to accept donations.

I won't share my SSN. Maybe government required, but I won't.

I was going to invest, but then it asked for my SS number.

If there is no way around that, I would be glad to simply donate.

Hi Rod. You should let people know that the legal structure for this with Social Security numbers for tax purposes etc. is such that at this time only Americans can invest. I am a Canadian ( we met in Toronto) who wanted to support this but turns out to not be possible at this time.

Thanks Ralph. I didn't realize that this is the case. Sorry about that. I see that Isaiah, the film's director, has explained why it has to be like this, according to US Government rules. (If you donate through Angel Studios, it seems like you are making not a donation, but an INVESTMENT -- one that can pay you back and even give you profits if the film is a hit. But I see too that the docuseries team is providing a way you can make a straight investment.

Irony is dead. A man who claims who wants to "Live by not Lies", has said repeatedly that he will vote for Donald Trump against Joe Biden. Irony is dead.

You, my friend, are part of the problem -- not part of the solution. If we have only two bad choices, you choose the least bad choice. See my Substack where where I lay out the reasons to vote, in Republican primaries, for Ron DeSantis. And remember, it is often very difficult to know the truth about complex issues. Don't assume you know more than you do. And the corollary is the mainstream media is not telling you the truth -- even Fox News is not right about everything. See my series about nuclear power -- I'd bet almost everything you think you know about it is a lie.

Rod Dreher's avatar

That makes no sense. I have no faith in either Trump or Biden -- in their honesty, or anything else. I will vote for the candidate that will cause the least amount of harm. Do you really have to believe a presidential candidate is truthful and honest before you will vote for them? Because that's ... kind of sweet these days.

Expand full comment
EddieInCA's avatar

Again, if you believe Trump will cause less harm than Biden, you're delusional or stupid. Trump is a unique danger to our entire system of government. Biden is old, but still believes in the system. Trump wants us to be Brazil or Russia, where he can act with mpunity. Wake up, Rod.
